If like me most of you will agree that 2020 has been a terrible year!
We haven’t been able to see friends and family, to go on holiday, exercise all the time, support local businesses and myself have been working from home since February!! (soul destroying).
It all takes a tole on us mentally and physically and that is what I am going to share with you…..
2020 has been a journey. I work in the aviation industry and Jan + Feb were looking great, March however just wiped the smile off everyone’s face. I don’t think any single person knew the severity and the worldwide pandemic that Covid-19 would become!
To start with I was like ok, this will be contained soon, no harm done, back to normality but how wrong I was….
This virus has taken countless lives, caused many job losses, driven people to undesirable addictions and many more things that without Covid-19 would never have happened. We now live in a world of 2m distance between people, hand sanitisation and face masks. That to me is not a problem if it helps save the life of a loved one.
I could go on and on about the negatives of 2020 and what has become but is there any point? I don’t think so and let me tell you why.
This virus is spreading and mutating into different strains and we as a population (most of the UK) are following the guidelines but that isn’t slowing the virus progression down. A vaccine has been approved and released but this will take months to roll out to the nation. All we can do now is Hands, Face, Space.
I am lucky to still be in a job for now and my employer has seen over 5000 people leave the business in 2020! None of my family or friends have lost their lives. I am lucky to be able to feed myself, to wash, to cloth myself! Some people have lost this and employment which is heart breaking and no fault of their own! For some their no light at the end of the tunnel and the battle is a day by day constant stress and worry but let me tell you. If you can get through this then the rest of your life will be a piece of cake for you and your family.
Industries are starting to pick up again, people are willing to spend money again, fitness activities are at a high because people now see the worth of life!
As an athlete I have trained throughout this year, safely and I will continue to. I am not without my downfalls and stresses which sometimes keep me awake at night. I have worked from home since February and continue to do so. I live on my own with my two dogs. Its like I never leave the house and that is soul destroying and also leads to undesirable consequences in my experience. I have faults that currently I am unable to share and seeking help over. I am only human after all.
I have mental health issues in which I take medication for (Sertraline) and I have no shame in saying I need those tablets. A problem halved is a problem solved and the first stage is admitting you have a problem, right?
If like me you do have a mental health problem however big or small please reach out to family, friends, colleagues or even me and I will do my best to help!! I am MFHA England accredited and I can point you in the right direction so please ask! You are not a burden to anyone please remember that.
2020 maybe one to forget but 2021 is going to be amazing for so many people. With willing and desire this virus will be defeated and life as we know it will prevail!! I hope everyone is safe, had a great Christmas and I wish you a very Happy New Year and a great 2021.
